Climatic cable tests

We carry out temperature cycling or environmental
property tests in our own laboratory or in rented
facilities belonging to our sub-contractors.

Wherever practicable, this form of testing is combined
with the determination of transmission property changes.

If the client so wishes, he may be present during testing.

Testing in the presence of TÜV Süd:
This option is particularly recommended where proof
of faults is required for court cases.

property changes carried out on

- optical water detectors

Tensile strength, bending, compression resistance, torsion, tightness etc.

Temperature management:

direct exposure to air

Temperature range:
max. + 180°C/ min. - 70°C

Temperature change:
max. 0,7K / Minute

Test of cable length change.
Determination of mechanical length changes in the cable sheath, core and fibres

  • 1 m measurement marks on 20 m length of cable
  • Temperature range: max. +100°C min -70°C

Test of sealing, cable ducts and service entries in houses in acc. with or based on the following specifications:

  • Deutsche Telekom TS 307/96
  • France Telecom ST/FTR/+D/7644
  • British Telecom LN584

Determination of sealing tightness:

  • Installation and removal at ambient and extreme temperatures
  • Reuse of sealing element
  • Ageing due to storage
  • Thermal ageing (immersion in water)
  • Inner overpressure max. 0.5 bar


Walk-in and drive-in climate chambers

  • Cable length approx. 1000 - 1500 m
  • Cable length change in a 20m cable length
  • Attenuation jumps at cable ends and in the cables
  • Attenuation coefficient
  • PMD with at least 1000 m dead zone fibres at both ends of the cable

Test of different types
of sealing for cable ducts,
cable connection joints
and branching joints:

  • Shrink technology products specifically intended for thermo-active, thermo-swelling use
  • Products  specifically intended  for cold applications O-rings, sealing rings, moulded rubber parts, mastics, tapes, pastes
  • Determination of inner-overpressure tightness
